OFFICE OF THE SECRETARIAT
EUROPEAN FEDERATION OF LIBERIAN ASSOCIATIONS (EFLA)
SEPTEMBER 18, 2023
Press Release
The European Federation of Liberian Associations (EFLA) strongly condemns the frequent importation of illicit narcotic drugs and the recent consignment of methamphetamine or meth into Liberia. This inhumane act allegedly by “higher ups” in the employ of the government of Liberia is counter-productive to the ongoing fight of the rehabilitation of the disadvantaged youths, who are already the victims of these narcotic substances. ELFA calls on the government to investigate the incident without favoritism and punish the culprits.
EFLA also calls upon the National Elections Commission (NEC), to ensure that the election on October 10, 2023 is free, fair and transparent. These elections are crucial to the sustenance of the hard-earned peace that the country enjoys today, and any act of electoral malfeasance has the potential to return the country to the gory days of the civil war.
EFLA would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to the European Union (EU) for its financial support as well as the capacity support through the hundreds of election observers to the Liberian electoral process. We call on the EU to ensure that its observers are vigilant to deter any form of intimidation and vote raking on October 10, 2023.
EFLA wants to reiterate its previous warning for the advocacy of sanctions and financial aids from development partners, particularly the European Union and the Swedish Development
Agency (SIDA) on any individual(s) or political party involve in the manipulation of the elections results.
Signed: FRANCIS MENSAH
President EFLA
